Chemical Peels: What to Know Beforehand

Chemical peels in Las Vegas are a way to exfoliate the skin that does not involve scrubbing or abrasive techniques, but that still leaves behind younger-looking, healthier skin. Chemical peels can come in a range of different strengths and have a history dating back centuries in various forms. The story of Cleopatra involves a form of chemical peel when the Egyptian queen would bathe in milk to gain the benefits of the lactic acid found in milk.

Chemical Peels are Growing in Popularity

A patient considering a chemical peel is not alone with the members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealing more than 600,000 procedures were completed by its members in 2015. This is a 25 percent rise on the figures gathered for 2014 and shows how people of all ages are seeking new and more traditional ways of caring for their skin. Among the many reasons for the rise in popularity of chemical peels Las Vegas is the fact they are less invasive than other cosmetic procedures, and results can be seen almost immediately. The chemical peel is so popular, more than half of all members of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons reported a high demand for the procedure in their offices.

Different Peel Strengths

There are many different forms of chemical peels on the market, which can be chosen between as the individual discusses their options with a medical professional. The three categories of chemical peels generally offered are light, medium, and deep.

Light peels are the most common and are created from acids naturally occurring in nature, particularly in the fruits we all enjoy as part of our diet. A light peel is a popular option for those who do not want to see the process of exfoliation taking place a few days after the peel is applied. Instead, a red glow and rosiness appear in the applied area.

Medium peels tend to use the same active ingredients as light peel varieties but at a much higher concentration level. Medium peels visibly show the effects of the peel for between one and two weeks after application but provide longer-lasting results.

The strongest peels are administered only by a doctor and contain high levels of acid which can be difficult for those who decide to undertake this skincare treatment to handle. Anesthesia is often administered when these peels are being applied to reduce the damaging effects on the patient. For those with sun-damaged skin and deep wrinkles around the mouth but are rarely used on the neck or hands as they can be too powerful for these delicate areas. If you are interested in a chemical peel or would like to learn more about the combination treatments we offer, contact Advanced Aesthetics Salon & Medical Spa today to schedule your consultation!
