How Long Does Juvederm Last?

JUVEDERM VOLUMA
Is your skin starting to show signs of age? Are you noticing slight changes such as wrinkles around the mouth, nose, and eyes? Are your cheeks appearing hollow, or your lips less full than you would like? If so, you can now find a long-lasting and natural-looking solution with Juvederm––a high-quality dermal filler available from Advanced Aesthetics Salon & Medical Spa in Las Vegas, NV.

What Does Juvederm Do?

The first thing to know is that this is an injectable dermal filler, which adds youthful-looking volume for skin that is suffering from age-related volume loss. It is made by the same company that makes Botox, but it works slightly differently. Botox relaxes the muscles in the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the surface of the skin. Juvederm, meanwhile, adds to the volume of the skin by helping it retain hydration.

How Long Does Juvederm Last?

One of the things that makes this such a popular treatment is that it has a lot of “staying power.” Many dermal fillers only show positive results for six to nine months. This filler manages to deliver quality results for at least one year––and in some cases up to two years.

There are a few different varieties of this treatment. The exact lifespan of the filler depends on the specific type you get. Juvederm Voluma, for instance, adds volume to the cheeks and lasts for two years. Other types may last for one year, or 18 months.

What Types of Juvederm Filler Are Available?

We are proud to offer a wide selection of fillers at our med spa in Las Vegas. The main varieties of Juvederm we offer include:

Volbella

Are you worried that your lips may be losing some volume? Perhaps you just want to add just a little extra “plump” to your pout or contour your lips into a more perfect shape. Volbella is ideal for this type of work. The Volbella formula is designed for precision work around the lips and mouth. It can be used to fill lip lines on the skin or to add volume to the lips themselves. Volbella typically lasts for one year.

Voluma

Voluma is a thicker variety of the filler than Voluma. It is designed for treating volume loss in the cheeks. It can be injected into different areas of the cheek––perhaps to lift the cheek line, perhaps to define the “apple” of the cheeks, or even to fill in “hollow” cheeks. The thicker skin of the cheek and Voluma’s consistency help it last for up to two years.

Ultra

This version of the filler is designed to combat the more noticeable lines on the lower half of the face. The main uses are softening the nasolabial folds and marionette lines (near the nose, mouth, and chin.) This version of the filler lasts for a year or more.

Ultra Plus

As one might expect from the name, Ultra Plus is a denser and more viscous form of the filler. It is ideal for filling especially deep and pronounced facial folds. It typically lasts for around one year.

What Is Juvederm?

This injectable filler looks a little like a gel. It is administered with an ultra-fine needle for optimal accuracy and results. There are two important main components of the filler. The first is a local anesthetic called lidocaine, which is used to make the injection more comfortable. The other main ingredient is called “hyaluronic acid” and it is this special chemical that makes Juvederm so effective and long-lasting.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is an organic chemical that is present in all humans. We are born with hyaluronic acid in our skin and joints. It is completely naturally occurring. This chemical helps lubricate our joints, deliver nutrients to different parts of our body, and––most importantly––binds to water to keep our skin hydrated.

It is this property that makes hyaluronic acid useful for restoring volume. The filler binds to the water that already exists in your face, creating a supple and youthful aesthetic that both looks and moves like youthful skin.

Why Do We Need to Replace Hyaluronic Acid as We Age?

Hyaluronic acid may be something that we all have initially, but we don’t keep it forever. This molecule starts to dissolve with time. As people get older, they lose hyaluronic acid in their skin. This leads to thinner skin, which can in turn cause folds and wrinkles on the surface. It can also create thinner lips or loss of volume and definition in the cheeks.

How Does a Hyaluronic Acid Filler Work?

When you get a hyaluronic acid filler, you are only adding a small amount of filler. The majority of the volume is created because the injection helps your skin retain water. A hyaluronic acid molecule binds to roughly 1000 times its weight in water. As long as the hyaluronic acid remains in the skin, it will continue to retain water and add volume to the injection site, giving you plumper lips, fuller cheeks, or softening the appearance of facial lines.

FAQs About This Treatment

Here we answer some of the most commonly asked questions about this filler, and what you can expect from the process. Of course, we are always happy to talk to you directly about our options, so if you have any further questions please get in touch!

Is This Treatment FDA-Approved?

Yes, the FDA approved the original form of the filler in 2006. Updated and improved varieties have been used successfully for millions of patients since then, and all of them receive extensive clinical testing and FDA approval before entering the market.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

An injection session will vary somewhat, depending on the type of filler used and how many areas you want to treat. Typically, a session will last for between 30 minutes and an hour.

Do I Need Multiple Treatments?

No––multiple treatment sessions are only needed if you are getting different areas of the face treated on different days. One injection is enough to show results. If patients choose to get a second injection later, it is usually over a year later, after the first results have started to wear off.

Is There a Long Recovery Time?

Not at all! One of the great things about this filler is that the process is streamlined and simple. You can come to our office, have a quick appointment, and then resume your normal daily activities. You don’t need to take time off work or spend time recovering.

What Is the Treatment Process Like?

When you arrive at our medical spa in Las Vegas, you will be able to get comfortable and relax before the injection. Most varieties of the filler contain a local anesthetic, in order to make the injection comfortable.

How Much Does Treatment Cost?

The cost of an injection will depend on several factors. These include the type of filler being used, as well as the number of injection sites. When you visit our office for your initial consultation, we will discuss the treatment and payment option that best suits your aesthetic goals and your budget.

How Do You Prepare for a Treatment Session?

There is very little that you need to do before getting an injection. We do ask you to avoid alcohol for the 24 hour period before your appointment, as well as any direct skin treatments, tanning, or anything that could make your skin sensitive near the treatment area. We also advise patients to avoid the use of aspirin and blood-thinning pain medication. When you meet with us for your consultation, we will make sure to discuss the details.

What Should You Do After Treatment?

We advise you to avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours after the injection as well. The reason for this is that it can change the rate at which blood moves in your system, which can potentially lead to bruising. We also recommend that patients avoid extreme heat, cold, or sunlight for a few days after the injection.

Finally, it’s a good idea not to get a massage for a week or two following the treatment session. These can sometimes cause an imbalance during the period when the filler settles into place.

How Soon Will You Start to See Results?

The results should be visible right away, however, these will not be the “final” results. The hyaluronic acid takes about two weeks to set. During this time, you may notice some small changes in the overall appearance of the filled area, but by the end of the two weeks, you will be able to see your long-term results as the hyaluronic acid binds to the water in your skin.

How Do You Maintain Your New Look?

You don’t have to do anything after your visit! There are no follow-up medications, pills, or creams that you need to use in order to maintain your first injection.

Over time, the hyaluronic acid will be gradually absorbed and broken down in the body. When this happens, you may wish to keep your results by getting a maintenance injection after the results have worn off. This will usually be between one and two years after your first injection.

Who Is a Candidate for Treatment?

Anyone who wishes to improve the vitality and youthful look of their skin is a potential candidate for this injection. The filler has been approved for patients who are 21 and over, and it is quite versatile when it comes to working with diverse skin types and treatment areas.

Who Should Avoid This Treatment?

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should avoid treatment. There are no known negative effects in these cases, but we avoid these cases out of an abundance of caution.

If you have an allergy to lidocaine, you may also need to avoid any of the fillers that contain this ingredient. Talk to our medical staff to find out if there are any versions of the filler that may be used in this instance. We will help you find the best treatment for your specific situation.
