At Advanced Aesthetics in Las Vegas, many patients ask the same question: Can my tattoo really be removed? Thanks to modern laser technology, the answer is often yes.

Tattoo removal with lasers has come a long way. A decade or two ago, removal methods were unpredictable, uncomfortable and could leave scars that were almost as unwanted as the tattoo itself. The lasers available today are much improved. They allow providers to selectively target ink beneath the skin without damaging the tissue around it, and the quality of that technology keeps improving.

Advanced Aesthetics has been performing laser treatments in the Las Vegas area for over 20 years. Led by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Tracy Hankins and Dr. Samuel Sohn, who bring more than 40 years of combined experience in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, our team has seen the evolution of this technology firsthand. We are available to answer any questions you have about how it works or what to expect.

How Does Tattoo Removal Work?

The basic principle is selective photothermolysis. The laser emits pulses of light at a single wavelength. Specific ink colors absorb specific wavelengths of light.

When the laser sends out light at the matching wavelength for the ink color you want to treat, the ink particles absorb that energy and shatter into tiny fragments. Those tinier particles of ink are now small enough for your immune system to clear away.

After each session, your lymphatic system gradually removes those broken-down particles. With each treatment, the tattoo fades as more pigment is processed and eliminated.

What Happens During A Laser Tattoo Removal Session?

Understanding what to expect during your treatment can help you prepare and ease any anxiety you might be feeling.

Step One: Consultation

Every successful laser tattoo removal journey begins with a consultation. During this appointment, your provider evaluates:

  • Tattoo size
  • Ink colors
  • Tattoo age
  • Skin type
  • Medical history

Professional tattoos tend to have denser, more layered pigment than amateur work, which usually means more sessions. Amateur tattoos, on the other hand, often fade faster because the ink was deposited less uniformly.

At Advanced Aesthetics, our providers perform thousands of aesthetic treatments across our Las Vegas Valley locations each year. That volume of experience helps us give you a realistic estimate of how many sessions your treatment will involve, rather than a generic range that could apply to anyone.

Step Two: Preparation

On the day of your session, we start by cleansing the treatment area. Both you and your provider wear protective eyewear. If you’d like it, a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to keep you comfortable.

Step Three: Laser Treatment

Your provider applies the laser to the tattoo. Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping against their skin. Small tattoos might take only a few minutes; larger or more complex pieces will take longer.

Step Four: Aftercare

After your laser tattoo removal session, the area may look red and slightly swollen. Mild blistering may occur and is a normal part of the healing process. Your provider will give you detailed aftercare instructions, including:

  • Keeping the area clean
  • Avoiding sun exposure
  • Applying recommended ointments
  • Avoiding picking or scratching

How Many Laser Tattoo Removal Sessions Will You Need?

Laser tattoo removal is not a one-session solution. Most patients require multiple treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart. This spacing is critical because your body needs time to clear the fragmented ink, and your skin needs time to heal completely before the next treatment.

The total number of sessions you need depends on several factors:

  • Tattoo size
  • Ink density
  • Color variety
  • Skin tone
  • Placement on the body

A small, older piece in black ink might fade significantly in four to six sessions. What Are

Some Factors That Influence Results?

Every tattoo and every individual responds differently to laser tattoo removal.

Ink Color

Black ink typically responds the fastest because it absorbs all laser wavelengths.

Tattoo Age

Older tattoos often fade more easily because the ink has already begun to break down. The laser simply has less work to do.

Skin Tone

Modern laser systems can treat a wide range of skin tones safely. However, darker skin types require more careful calibration to reduce the risk of pigment changes. A provider who understands how different skin tones interact with laser energy can protect your skin while still being aggressive enough to produce results.

With a team that includes multiple advanced aestheticians trained in laser treatments and medical oversight from two board-certified plastic surgeons, Advanced Aesthetics has the depth of expertise to treat patients across the spectrum of skin tones safely.

Immune Response

Your body does the hard work of clearing away the treated ink between sessions. Stay hydrated, maintain good overall health and follow your aftercare instructions to support your body in clearing the pigment efficiently. Smoking, poor circulation and certain medications can slow the process.

What Results Can You Expect From Laser Tattoo Removal?

Results from laser tattoo removal develop gradually. After the first session, you may notice slight lightening. With each additional treatment, the tattoo continues to fade.

Many patients achieve significant fading or complete removal. Others use laser treatment to lighten a tattoo in preparation for a cover-up, which gives the tattoo artist a much cleaner canvas to work with and opens up design options that would not have been possible over dense, dark ink.

Complete removal cannot be guaranteed.

Who Is A Good Candidate for Laser Tattoo Removal?

Most healthy adults with realistic expectations are good candidates for laser tattoo removal. You are likely a strong candidate if you:

  • Do not have active skin infections in the treatment area
  • Are not pregnant
  • Understand that multiple sessions are required
  • Are willing to follow aftercare guidelines

If you have certain medical conditions or a history of keloid scarring, your provider will discuss whether laser tattoo removal is appropriate for you.

Get Clearer Skin With Laser Tattoo Removal

Choosing laser tattoo removal is often about more than removing ink. For many patients, it represents a fresh start, a changing career path or new relationship. For others, it is simply about making a different choice than the one they made at 19. Whatever the reason, you do not owe anyone an explanation, and you should feel comfortable with the people helping you through the process.

Advanced Aesthetics has served the Las Vegas and Henderson communities for over two decades, with multiple locations across the valley and a team that has collectively performed tens of thousands of aesthetic treatments.

If you are ready to explore your options, scheduling a consultation at Advanced Aesthetics is the best first step. We will evaluate your tattoo, walk you through a realistic treatment plan and answer every question you have before you commit to anything.
