Tattoos can be a great way for many people to express themselves and add creativity to their appearance. However, there may come a time when the tattoo that was once thought to be a good idea is no longer as appealing as it first seemed. Tattoos may need to be removed for numerous reasons: employer policies, a design you no longer like, lifestyle changes, or your tattoo may have lost its form or become discolored over time. Our team at Advanced Aesthetics is trained in advanced laser techniques to effectively reduce the appearance of undesired tattoos.
What to Expect
A topical local anesthetic can be used to numb the treatment area; however, there is typically minimal pain associated with laser tattoo removal. A single wavelength of pulsed light from a state-of-the-art laser will be targeted to the color pigments of the tattoo, breaking up each pigment into smaller molecules to be absorbed by the body. A variety of colors can be effectively targeted; however, some may be easier to fade than others. It is a relatively quick procedure, usually taking ten to thirty minutes to complete for each tattoo. The fading process could take four to ten weeks. Depending on the size, placement, and depth of the tattoo, several treatments may be necessary to maximize fading.
Results & Recovery
Following treatment, patients may notice a sunburned look with redness and swelling at the treatment sites. Mild blistering might occur after the first few treatments. Some people may experience temporary skin lightening on the treated area. Blowing cool air and applying ice on the treated skin can help to minimize side effects. These residual effects from treatment should quickly resolve. Most people can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
